Join us for GRAOSA’s first workshop of the year on September 18, 2021. The workshop will be an in person workshop at the Nazareth College Arts Center, Room A4. The fall workshop with Erika Johnson Knapp will be from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Membership forms can be completed online from the Membership Page. We are now offering 5 hours of CTLE credits for our workshops! Also new this year, if you attend all three workshops, you can receive Nazareth College Credit. Creating authentic experiences for your students that center around Creativity, Agency, and Reflection
Using poetry, children’s literature, the volumes, and more, participants will explore ways to center student creativity, agency and reflection in their classrooms. Additionally, participants will consider opportunities to incorporate principles of culturally sustaining pedagogy and universal design for learning into their program. Participants should bring a soprano recorder and wear comfortable clothes that allows for movement and play!
Erika Johnson Knapp is an Interim Professor of Music Teaching and Learning at the Eastman School of Music and a PhD candidate in Music Education at Michigan State University. Prior to her career in music teacher education, she served as a general and middle school music educator in the Mid-Michigan Area for 13 years, where she taught K-5 music, beginning ukulele, music appreciation, and middle school choir. She is a frequent guest clinician and presenter across the United States and Canada, focusing on creativity, equity, and authentic assessment in the classroom. Erika is also Orff Schulwerk pedagogy teacher for AOSA. Her research interests include students with dis/abilities, intersectional identity, and teacher professional development.
